A high-voltage political controversy unfolded in Jharkhand over the nomination of independent Rajya Sabha candidate Parimal Nathwani. The dispute began after Congress raised objections, alleging discrepancies in Nathwani’s nomination papers and affidavit. The complaint was submitted by Congress-backed MLA Naman Bixal Kongari, prompting a hearing before the Returning Officer.
The proceedings drew attention after senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid arrived at the Assembly Secretariat after the hearing had effectively concluded. Khurshid later expressed disappointment, saying he was unable to present his arguments despite traveling to Ranchi for the case.
Congress advocate Rajendra Chouhan argued that Nathwani’s nomination contained procedural irregularities and claimed a revised affidavit had been filed in violation of election rules. The party demanded that Nathwani’s nomination be rejected.
Meanwhile, the nominations of JMM candidate Baidyanath Ram and Congress candidate Pranav Jha were accepted. Election authorities are now expected to review all submissions before taking a final decision on the objections raised against Nathwani’s candidature.
