A cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence on Wednesday approved 24 important proposals. The meeting brought major decisions, including a massive hike in the honorarium of government lawyers, setting the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for maize, and providing relief to transport systems. By greenlighting proposals from the Food and Civil Supplies, Prisons, Irrigation, Excise, Agriculture, and Stamp and Registration departments, the Yogi government has delivered significant relief to farmers, vehicle owners, and advocates alike.
The most prominent decision of the cabinet meeting was the up to 50 percent hike in the fees and allowances of government lawyers. This revision of honorariums for government advocates representing the Uttar Pradesh government from district courts to the High Court and Supreme Court comes after several years. Under this proposal, the monthly retainership of the Advocate General will be increased from ₹75,000 to ₹1.25 lakh, and the per-hearing fee will be raised from ₹40,000 to ₹60,000. Similarly, the retainership for government lawyers in district courts will go up from ₹9,000 to ₹14,000, and the per-hearing fee will increase from ₹1,650 to ₹2,500.
Taking a major step in the interest of farmers, the government has fixed the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for maize at ₹2,400 per quintal, with official procurement scheduled from June 5 to July 31 across several districts. Additionally, to modernize public transport, the operation of air-conditioned (AC) electric buses under the GCC model was approved for 18 cities. To strengthen law and order and infrastructure, the cabinet also approved a new compensation policy for inmate deaths in prisons, the construction of new jails in five districts, and land allotment for a registry office in Mohanlalganj.
