Jamshedpur’s public healthcare system has come under scrutiny following the deaths of two patients at separate government hospitals, leading to allegations of medical negligence and protests by grieving family members. The incidents occurred at Sadar Hospital in Parsudih and MGM Hospital, prompting authorities to launch investigations into both cases.

The first incident involved 42-year-old Bhubaneswar Mandal, a resident of Jemco Azad Basti, who visited Sadar Hospital on Saturday night complaining of severe back pain. According to family members, doctors examined him and administered medication along with an injection for pain relief. After receiving treatment, he returned home. However, his condition reportedly deteriorated shortly afterward, with complaints of chest burning and severe discomfort. He eventually lost consciousness and was rushed back to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The incident occurred around 10:30 PM.

Following the death, Mandal’s family accused the hospital of negligence, claiming that his health worsened only after receiving the injection. His wife, Kajal Mandal, demanded compensation and action against those responsible. The protest escalated within the hospital premises before police intervened to restore order. Hospital officials stated that the patient had elevated blood sugar levels and emphasized that the exact cause of death would be determined after the post-mortem examination. Civil Surgeon Dr. Sahir Paul assured that a detailed inquiry would be conducted and strict action taken if any negligence is established.

In the second incident, a woman identified as Miru Gorai from Gamharia died at MGM Hospital after being admitted for treatment on May 26. Her family alleged that despite her worsening condition, doctors failed to provide timely medical attention. They claimed repeated efforts to call medical staff were unsuccessful before her condition became critical.

The woman’s death triggered protests inside the hospital’s emergency ward, forcing Home Guard personnel to intervene. MGM Hospital Superintendent Dr. Balram Jha has ordered an investigation and promised appropriate action if any lapse in patient care is found.
