Garhwa Sand Scam: Three Tractors Found Using Same Registration Number

Brief By Newsbrief / 12:37 PM on 31 May 2026

A surprising revelation has emerged during the administration’s ongoing crackdown on illegal sand mining and transportation in Garhwa district. Investigators discovered that sand smugglers had allegedly adopted an unusual method to evade enforcement agencies, with three different tractors operating under the same registration number.

The irregularity came to light during a detailed investigation ordered by Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Sanjay Kumar. Officials reviewed CCTV footage and other evidence to identify vehicles involved in the illegal transportation of sand. The inquiry led to the identification of 13 tractors suspected of being engaged in unauthorized sand hauling activities.

During the investigation, authorities also found several tractors that were operating without any registration numbers, making their immediate identification difficult. However, the most significant finding was the use of a single registration number on three separate tractors. Officials believe this was a deliberate attempt to conceal the identity of the vehicles and avoid administrative action.

The discovery has raised serious concerns about the methods being used by illegal sand operators to continue their activities despite increased monitoring by authorities. The use of duplicate or fake registration numbers is being viewed as a major violation that could indicate a wider network involved in illegal mining and transportation.

Taking the matter seriously, the administration has directed the district mining department to conduct a thorough investigation into the identified vehicles and take strict legal action against those found responsible. Efforts are also underway to identify tractors operating without registration numbers and vehicles carrying suspicious or forged registration details.

Officials stated that surveillance and enforcement operations against illegal sand mining and transportation will continue in the coming months. The administration aims to curb revenue losses to the government, prevent environmental violations, and ensure strict compliance with mining and transportation regulations. Further investigations may reveal additional individuals and vehicles connected to the illegal sand trade.
