Three youths were arrested by Jagannathpur police in Ranchi for allegedly possessing brown sugar and using a stolen motorcycle during a vehicle-checking operation near Jagannathpur Temple. The accused have been identified as Shamshad Ansari, Imtiyaz Ansari, and Mohammad Majid, all residents of the Hesag Hatia Masjid Basti area.
According to police, the arrests were made during an evening patrol and vehicle inspection drive in the temple vicinity. During the operation, officers noticed three young men riding a motorcycle toward the temple. On spotting the police, the trio allegedly attempted to change direction abruptly, raising suspicion among the officers.
The police stopped the motorcycle and questioned the riders. During the inquiry, the suspects appeared nervous, prompting officers to conduct a thorough search. The search led to the recovery of 0.90 grams of brown sugar from two of the accused. Further verification revealed that the motorcycle they were using had been reported stolen.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that they had been purchasing brown sugar from a person identified as Khaja. They informed investigators that the narcotic substance was being supplied to them for approximately ₹500. Based on the information provided by the arrested men, police conducted a raid in the Pundag area to locate the suspected supplier.
However, Khaja was not found during the operation and is currently absconding. Police have registered a case against him and launched a search operation to secure his arrest.
The three arrested individuals have been produced before the court and sent to judicial custody. Investigators believe that further inquiry into the case could reveal links to a broader drug distribution network operating in the region. Police officials stated that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other individuals who may be involved in the illegal narcotics trade.
