Meteor Explosion Over Northeastern US Triggers Sonic Booms, Shakes Buildings

A meteor exploded over the northeastern United States on Saturday, generating a powerful blast equivalent to nearly 300 tons of TNT, according to NASA. The space rock disintegrated at an altitude of about 64 kilometres while travelling at over 120,000 kmph. The explosion produced loud sonic booms, rattled buildings across the region, and was detected by monitoring systems.
