“Green Travel Revolution: Jharkhand Plans Modern Electric Bus Network Across State”

Brief By Newsbrief / 5:22 PM on 26 May 2026

The Jharkhand government is preparing to introduce a modern electric bus service aimed at improving public transportation while promoting environmentally friendly travel. The initiative, being launched under the leadership of Hemant Soren, is expected to provide affordable, safe, and comfortable transport facilities for people across the state.

According to officials, the government is also working on a proposal to offer free or subsidized travel for senior citizens, students, and other eligible categories. If implemented successfully, the scheme could provide major financial relief to lakhs of daily commuters and economically weaker passengers.

The state government believes that introducing electric buses will help reduce air pollution while strengthening public transport infrastructure in both urban and rural areas. Authorities expect the move to improve connectivity and make travel more convenient for residents who depend heavily on public transportation.

The plan is being seen as an extension of the already operational Gram Gaadi Yojana, under which free travel benefits for students and senior citizens have been announced earlier. Now, the government aims to further expand and modernize the transport system through electric mobility solutions.

Hemant Soren has linked better transport facilities directly with the state’s development goals. He said the government is continuously working on welfare-oriented projects that provide direct benefits to common citizens. Apart from improving transportation, officials believe the electric bus project will also create new employment opportunities in operations, maintenance, and transport management sectors.

The initiative focuses on promoting green transport, reducing fuel dependency, and making travel economically easier for the public. If launched on schedule, the electric bus network could become one of Jharkhand’s biggest steps toward modern and sustainable public transportation.
