A shocking incident was reported from Punjab’s Amritsar district where Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Joga Singh was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Sunday morning. The attack took place while the police officer was travelling to duty on his scooter.
According to officials, ASI Joga Singh sustained serious gunshot injuries during the attack. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival. The incident has triggered panic in the area and prompted a major police investigation.
Soon after receiving information about the shooting, senior police officials reached the crime scene and cordoned off the area. Police teams have started examining CCTV footage from nearby locations and launched raids in search of the attackers.
Suhail Qasim Mir, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Amritsar, confirmed the incident and shared details about the case. He stated that the incident occurred near Hamza village under the Majitha police station area. ASI Joga Singh, a resident of Ganik-e-Bangar in Batala, was currently posted with the Amritsar Traffic Police and was travelling towards Amritsar when he was found with bullet injuries.
The SSP further said that the exact motive behind the murder is still being investigated. Since the attack took place on the roadside while the officer was travelling, police are examining multiple possibilities, including personal enmity, a targeted attack, and road rage.
