Toyota Kirloskar Motor has achieved a significant milestone in the Indian automobile market by selling more than 3 lakh hybrid vehicles in the country. The company stated that the growing sales numbers clearly indicate increasing consumer acceptance of self-charging hybrid electric vehicle technology in India.
According to Toyota, hybrid vehicles are gaining popularity because they offer improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and a more convenient ownership experience. Unlike fully electric vehicles, which often create concerns related to charging infrastructure and driving range, hybrid cars provide a balance between fuel savings and driving convenience. The company currently sells several hybrid models in India, including the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Innova Hycross, Camry Hybrid, and Vellfire Hybrid.
Toyota’s hybrid technology combines a petrol engine with an electric motor, allowing the vehicle to operate in EV mode for longer distances, especially in urban areas. The battery system charges automatically through regenerative braking and engine power, removing the need for external charging stations.
Speaking on the achievement, Sabari Manohar said hybrid technology will continue to play a crucial role in the company’s electrification strategy for India. Toyota also offers an 8-year warranty on hybrid batteries as part of its hybrid vehicle program.
Globally, Toyota has sold over 3.8 crore electrified vehicles across various technologies, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric, and fuel-cell electric vehicles.
Sales figures from April 2026 show that the Toyota Innova Hycross was the company’s best-selling hybrid model in India with 4,100 units sold, followed by the Toyota Hyryder with 2,657 units. Hybrid models based on Toyota technology from Maruti Suzuki also contributed significantly to the market.
