A fresh controversy has surfaced in Ghaziabad after supporters of rape accused Sushil Prajapati organized a grand procession and celebration following his release from jail on bail. Prajapati, a former city president of the Hindu Yuva Vahini, walked out of jail on May 17 after spending nearly nine months behind bars.
Videos of the celebration quickly went viral on social media, showing supporters welcoming the accused with flower garlands, slogan shouting, and a convoy of vehicles outside the jail gate. The incident has triggered sharp reactions and raised serious questions regarding public glorification of an accused person facing grave criminal charges.
The case dates back to August 8, 2025, when an LLB student from Modinagar lodged a rape complaint against Prajapati at Muradnagar police station. According to the victim, she met the accused in November 2021 while pursuing law studies and practicing under a senior advocate at the Meerut court. She alleged that Prajapati gained her trust by promising to help her establish a chamber at the Ghaziabad court and support her legal career.
The complainant further accused him of taking her to a flat in his SUV on the pretext of arranging professional assistance. There, she alleged that she was given a cold drink mixed with intoxicating substances before being sexually assaulted. The victim also claimed that the accused threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
Following the complaint, police declared a ₹25,000 reward for information leading to Prajapati’s arrest before finally apprehending him on August 11, 2025. Authorities confirmed that the viral video of the recent celebration has now come under investigation. DCP Rural Surendra Nath Tiwari stated that police are examining the matter thoroughly and appropriate action will be taken after the inquiry.
