Women Caught Stealing Cash from House in Bank Colony, Locals Hand Them Over to Police

Increasing theft incidents in residential areas have created fear and insecurity among local residents, with many people now questioning police patrolling and security arrangements. On Tuesday, two women accused of attempting theft in the Bank Colony area were caught by locals and later handed over to the police.
According to reports, the incident took place on Tuesday morning when two women reached the house of Kanchan Kumari in Bank Colony pretending to ask for alms. Taking advantage of the situation, they allegedly entered the house and stole around Rs 7,000 kept inside a purse.
A short while later, when the house owner came out of the room, she noticed her purse lying on the floor and immediately suspected theft. She raised an alarm, after which nearby residents rushed to the spot and chased the suspects.
Local people managed to catch one woman and a young girl accompanying her. During a search, the stolen cash was reportedly recovered from their bag. After receiving information about the incident, police from the town police station reached the area and took both individuals into custody.
Police officer Chunda Hansda said that one woman and one young girl involved in the theft case have been detained. He added that both suspects will be questioned at the police station and further legal action will be taken after receiving a written complaint.
Meanwhile, local residents alleged that an organized gang of women is active in different parts of the city. According to them, the group often enters houses under the pretext of begging or seeking help and commits theft whenever they find an opportunity.
Residents also claimed that several theft incidents have recently been reported from areas including Balliadanga, Namupada and regions near the police center. People expressed anger over what they described as weak police patrolling and inadequate surveillance, saying criminals are becoming more fearless due to the lack of strict monitoring.
