Questions are being raised over Jharkhand’s Public Distribution System (PDS) after alleged irregularities surfaced in the doorstep delivery mechanism responsible for transporting food grains from government warehouses to ration dealers. The system, designed to ensure timely distribution to beneficiaries, is reportedly witnessing major lapses involving transport vendors.
According to officials, vendors are required to deploy vehicles listed during the tender process and install GPS trackers to prevent diversion or black marketing of food grains. However, reports from Giridih district suggest that several vendors are operating with significantly fewer vehicles than declared and have failed to install GPS systems despite repeated instructions.
In Gandey block, officials admitted that only 8–10 vehicles are being used for transportation, although more than 20 vehicles were listed during tender submission. District Supply Officer Ghulam Samdani confirmed receiving complaints and warned of strict action. Vendors have been directed to install GPS devices within one week or face penalties.
