Google Pay Launches ‘Pocket Money’ Feature, Enabling Kids to Pay Digitally Without Bank Accounts

Brief By Newsbrief / 7:24 PM on 10 Apr 2026

Google has introduced a new ‘Pocket Money’ feature on Google Pay, aimed at simplifying digital payments for families while maintaining parental control. The feature allows children to make UPI-based payments without having their own bank accounts, as transactions are linked directly to a parent’s account. Parents can add children or trusted users as secondary accounts and monitor their spending in real time.

Designed to promote financial awareness, the tool enables parents to set monthly spending limits of up to ₹15,000 or approve transactions individually. It supports everyday purchases such as snacks, school supplies, and small expenses, offering convenience without compromising oversight.

To ensure safety, the feature includes mandatory KYC verification, confirming the identity and relationship between users. Overall, ‘Pocket Money’ aims to create a secure, controlled environment where children can learn responsible money management while adapting to India’s growing digital payment ecosystem.
