A 30-year-old man, Chhotu Mishra alias Sujit Kumar Jha, was shot dead by unidentified bike-borne assailants near Meera Talkies in the Sadar police station area of Saharsa on Friday night, triggering panic in the locality. According to police, Mishra had stepped out of his house when the attackers surrounded him and opened indiscriminate fire, hitting him in the head, chest and other parts of the body. He was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Preliminary investigations suggest the murder may be linked to an ongoing gang rivalry connected to the 2020 killing of gangster Mickey Chaubey in Saharsa. Mishra’s family members had reportedly been named in the earlier case, raising suspicions of a revenge attack.
Police teams reached the spot soon after the incident and recovered several empty cartridges from the scene. Authorities are also examining phone calls that allegedly lured the victim outside his house. Raids are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the killing.
