Following the completion of mayor and councillor elections in Jharkhand’s urban local bodies, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has shifted its focus to the upcoming deputy mayor and vice-chairperson elections. The party has begun preparing its organisational strategy, identifying councillors and supporters who could help secure these positions across the state’s 48 municipal bodies.
According to BJP leaders, the party expects to perform strongly in the indirect elections, as councillors will play a decisive role in choosing deputy mayors in municipal corporations and vice-chairpersons in municipal councils and nagar panchayats. State BJP media in-charge Shivpujan Pathak said the party believes its strong presence among elected councillors will help it secure several key posts.
While BJP-backed candidates won around 16 mayor or chairperson positions, the results were not entirely in line with the party’s expectations. The State Election Commission has scheduled the deputy mayor and vice-chairperson elections between March 10 and March 20 across the state.
