The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday reserved its verdict on a criminal writ petition filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which challenged the Ranchi police investigation against its officials. After hearing arguments from all parties, the court ordered that the existing stay on police action will continue until a final decision is delivered. The ED has sought a CBI inquiry into the matter, alleging that the state police investigation could hamper its independent probe into alleged irregularities linked to the state’s drinking water department. The dispute began after a case accused, Santosh Kumar, appeared at the ED office without summons and later filed an FIR claiming assault during questioning. Ranchi police subsequently began an inquiry and visited the ED office, prompting the agency to approach the High Court. Earlier, the bench had put a complete stay on the police investigation. The case now awaits the court’s final ruling.
