Urea Black-Marketing Sparks Uproar in Bihar Assembly

The Bihar Assembly witnessed a heated debate on Thursday after allegations of urea black-marketing were raised during Question Hour. Narkatia MLA Vishal Kumar accused officials and fertilizer dealers of collusion, claiming that farmers were suffering due to illegal practices. He demanded a thorough investigation, including scrutiny of mobile locations of concerned officers and dealers to expose the network. Responding to the allegations, Agriculture Minister Ramkripal Yadav said the state had ensured adequate fertilizer supply for both Kharif and Rabi seasons in 2025–26. He asserted that urea availability was higher than required and that the government was taking strict steps to curb illegal sales. However, the matter continued to stir strong reactions in the House. BJP MLA Neeraj Bablu alleged that urea was being smuggled from Bihar to Nepal, calling it a serious concern. He urged the government to strengthen surveillance in border areas and implement tougher enforcement measures to stop diversion and protect farmers’ interests.
