Brief By Newsbrief / 12:12 PM on 11 Feb 2026

Ranchi witnessed a night of chaos and fear after two youths in a black Scorpio unleashed a violent rampage across the city, prompting a high-alert police response. The incident began late Monday night after the accused, identified as Ishtiaq and Gulfam, allegedly got into a dispute with transgender persons near Kachahari Chowk following a drinking session. Police said the duo deliberately ran over one transgender person and later abducted a college student, Bunty Kumar, who tried to intervene. He was brutally assaulted and thrown onto the roadside in critical condition.

As emergency calls poured in, police teams led by Kotwali DSP Prakash Soy launched an extensive chase, setting up barricades across major routes. The suspects repeatedly rammed police vehicles and attempted to run over officers. After warnings were ignored, police first targeted the tyres and later opened fire, injuring Ishtiaq in the waist. The vehicle was finally stopped near Mandar, and Gulfam was arrested on the spot.

The injured driver is undergoing treatment, while the abducted student and the transgender victim are admitted to Sadar Hospital. Police have seized the Scorpio and are investigating whether others were involved in the violent spree.
