Serious questions have been raised over promotions and appointments made at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, RIMS Ranchi, over the past several years. A section of doctors and employees working at the institute has alleged that during the tenure of former directors, service rules and prescribed procedures were ignored and arbitrary decisions were taken. This has had a direct impact on the administrative system and work culture of the institution.According to the allegations, several promotions between 2017 and 2023 were carried out in violation of rules, resulting in junior doctors being placed in senior positions. This not only disturbed the seniority order but also violated the rights of qualified and experienced doctors. Complaints have also emerged regarding appointments made without any public advertisement, which is considered a clear violation of government service norms.Adding to the seriousness of the matter, it has also been alleged that some non medical personnel were granted salaries and facilities equivalent to those of doctors. This has raised questions over the financial management of the institute as well. The health department is now being urged to conduct an impartial and transparent inquiry into the entire matter so that those responsible can be identified and such irregularities can be prevented in the future.
