Ranjan Das, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) posted in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district, has drawn official attention after reporting to duty with dyed red hair, prompting a warning from senior authorities. The issue came to light after a video showing Das with red hair went viral on social media while he was deployed to manage a public protest. The visuals triggered discussions online about discipline and decorum within the police force.
Following the incident, Inspector General of Police Satyajit Nayak issued a formal warning to the officer, advising him to maintain a professional appearance in line with service norms. Das was instructed to immediately change his hair colour back to a natural shade, in keeping with established police conduct rules.
Senior officials clarified that while no departmental inquiry has been initiated, uniformed personnel are expected to adhere to prescribed standards of appearance, especially during public duty. The episode has reignited debate on personal expression versus institutional discipline within uniformed services, with authorities reiterating that professionalism remains paramount in public-facing roles.
