The Dhanbad Cyber Police have exposed a gang that scammed a 73-year-old man of ₹10.5 lakh by threatening him with a “digital arrest.” The police have arrested one accused from Bhopal in connection with the case. This information was shared by Rural SP Kapil Chaudhary during a press conference held at the Cyber Police Station on Tuesday.He said that the victim, 73-year-old Sebastian Horo from Ratanpur in the Tundi police area, filed a complaint at the Cyber Police Station on January 8. In his application, the victim stated that cyber criminals called him on WhatsApp and claimed to be ED and CBI officers, threatening to implicate him in a money laundering case. The criminals created fear of a digital arrest and pressured him mentally, forcing him to transfer ₹10.5 lakh to various bank accounts under the pretext of avoiding investigation.The police said that during the investigation, leads to the gang emerged and the accused was traced to Bhopal. Acting swiftly, the police arrested him. The investigation is ongoing to arrest other members of the gang. Police have urged the public not to trust unknown calls or messages and not to make bank transactions under any pressure.Legal action is being taken against the accused under relevant cyber crime sections, and further investigation is underway.
