The sudden arrival of a Ranchi Police team at the Enforcement Directorate’s regional office in Hinoo on Tuesday sparked sharp administrative and political reactions across Jharkhand. The visit, described as part of a preliminary inquiry, followed a complaint by a JMM worker linked to allegations made by Santosh Kumar, an accused in the alleged drinking water scam. Kumar has claimed that he was assaulted while in ED custody, prompting the police to seek clarification from ED officials.
The situation turned sensitive as central armed forces were already deployed for the security of the ED office, while state police personnel entered the premises, creating an unusual face-off between two law enforcement agencies. Officials maintained that the police visit was procedural and aimed at verifying facts.
However, the episode has intensified the ongoing strain between the state administration and central investigative agencies in Jharkhand. With ED continuing probes into corruption cases and local police initiating counter-inquiries, the incident has highlighted a growing institutional tussle, drawing close attention from political and legal circles alike.
