Chief Election Commissioner Visits Basukinath, Reviews Poll Preparedness in Santhal

India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is on a two-day visit to the Santhal region, covering Deoghar and Dumka. On Monday morning, he offered prayers with his family at Basukinath Dham, seeking peace, prosperity and progress for the country. Speaking to the media after the ritual, he said the visit combined spiritual devotion with official responsibilities. Basukinath Dham, also known as Faujdari Baba, holds special religious significance, as worship at the Deoghar temple is traditionally considered complete only after offering prayers here.

Following the temple visit, the Chief Election Commissioner proceeded to Tapovan Hill, where he reviewed election-related infrastructure and preparedness. He later held an interaction with Booth Level Officers at a local Plus-2 school and discussed the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Jharkhand. Security arrangements at the temple were tightened ahead of his arrival. He was welcomed by Dumka Deputy Commissioner Abhijeet Sinha and senior police officials and was accorded a guard of honour by the district administration.
