Brief By Newsbrief / 7:07 PM on 03 Jan 2026

Following directions from the Jharkhand High Court, the Ranchi district administration has stepped up its campaign against illegal encroachments across the city and surrounding areas. Bulldozers have been deployed in several localities, signalling a strict approach toward unauthorized constructions, particularly those affecting lakes, dams and other water bodies.

The drive has gained momentum as part of an effort to protect natural resources and restore public land. Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri personally inspected areas around the Hatia Dam, one of the city’s key water reservoirs. During the inspection, he instructed officials to identify illegal structures, issue notices where required, and ensure prompt demolition in accordance with legal procedures.

Officials said similar actions are underway in other parts of Ranchi district, with special focus on encroachments near ponds, rivers and government land. The administration has warned that no leniency will be shown and that the court’s directives will be implemented strictly to prevent further violations.
