An intensive investigation is underway following the dramatic jailbreak from Hazaribagh’s Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan Central Jail, where three inmates managed to escape late on the night of December 30. The incident came to light the next morning during the routine roll call, triggering alarm within the prison administration and local police.
Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police Anjani Anjan confirmed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the breach and track down the fugitives. The SIT includes two Deputy Superintendents of Police, two inspectors, and several other officers, highlighting the seriousness of the case. Police have been conducting raids and searches for the past two days, but the escaped prisoners remain at large.
Preliminary findings suggest that the escape was led by Deva Bhuiyan, a known offender who has a history of orchestrating jailbreaks. Investigators suspect that Bhuiyan may have planned the entire operation, using prior experience to exploit security loopholes. According to officials, the inmates cut through a toilet window and then climbed over the prison’s boundary wall to flee.
An FIR has been registered at Lohsinghna police station, and the jail’s security arrangements are also under scrutiny. Authorities are examining possible internal lapses and negligence that may have facilitated the escape, while efforts to recapture the prisoners continue across the district and adjoining areas.
