Karnataka Survey Reinforces Public Trust in EVMs, BJP Targets Congress Claims

The debate over the credibility of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) has gained fresh momentum after the results of a Karnataka government–commissioned survey were made public. The survey indicates that a significant majority of citizens in the state consider EVMs to be safe, reliable, and accurate, reinforcing confidence in India’s electoral process. Conducted under the supervision of Karnataka’s Chief Electoral Officer, the study covered 102 Assembly constituencies and gathered opinions from around 5,100 respondents across diverse social and geographic backgrounds.

According to the findings, most participants expressed trust in the functioning of EVMs and rejected claims suggesting large-scale manipulation. The results have political implications, as they come amid sustained allegations by the Congress, particularly by Rahul Gandhi, regarding “vote theft” and institutional bias in elections. Following the release of the survey, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stepped up its attack on the Congress, citing the data as evidence that public perception does not align with opposition claims.

BJP leaders argued that the survey reflects ground realities and demonstrates voter faith in electoral mechanisms managed by the Election Commission of India. They also accused the Congress of undermining democratic institutions by repeatedly questioning election outcomes without substantive proof. Meanwhile, Congress leaders maintain that concerns over transparency and fairness should not be dismissed and have reiterated demands for greater accountability.

Overall, the survey has added a new dimension to the ongoing national conversation on electoral integrity, placing public opinion at the center of the EVM debate.
