Bokaro : The 12-day indefinite hunger strike by the Displaced Apprentices Association and displaced families demanding employment at the steel plant ended on Wednesday following discussions facilitated by Bokaro Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha.
A meeting lasting several hours was held at Bokaro Niwas between officials of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) management, displaced representatives and Congress MLA Shweta Singh. The participants agreed to end the protest following the discussions.
The meeting focused on initiating recruitment for Class IV posts and providing employment opportunities to displaced candidates who have completed their apprenticeship training. However, final decisions on these demands require approval from the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) headquarters.
The minutes of the meeting will be forwarded by the Deputy Commissioner to the Chief Secretary and Home Secretary, while BSL officials will submit the proceedings to the SAIL chairman.
MLA Shweta Singh described the talks as constructive and said the administration had given assurances that the process would be taken forward within seven days. She reiterated her support for the displaced families.
With the hunger strike called off, the affected families are now awaiting concrete decisions from BSL management and SAIL headquarters on their employment demands.
