Mirzapur The Movie lives up to the promise of bringing something fresh to the popular Mirzapur universe. The biggest question was whether viewers would get anything new when the film features characters they already know from the series. The answer is yes. The characters remain familiar, but the story is completely different, making the film accessible even to those who have not watched the series.
The story once again revolves around the coveted throne of Mirzapur, with several powerful players eyeing control. From Bahraich and Jaunpur to Jaisalmer, everyone wants a piece of the power game. While the familiar faces return, their relationships, conflicts and backstories take the narrative in a new direction. Munna Bhaiya, Guddu Bhaiya, Beena and Kaleen Bhaiya continue to dominate the screen.
Director Gurmeet Singh handles the new storyline effectively, while Puneet Krishna's writing manages to balance the established characters with fresh twists. However, the biggest drawback is the runtime. At around 3 hours and 17 minutes, the film feels stretched in places, particularly during character-building portions.
Ravi Kishan's entry as Babban Yadav is one of the highlights. His unique personality and strong screen presence add a different flavour to the story. Pankaj Tripathi remains outstanding as Kaleen Bhaiya, while Ali Fazal and Divyenndu slip effortlessly back into their iconic roles. Rasika Dugal is equally impressive, especially with Beena's emotional backstory. Jitendra Kumar also makes a strong impact as Bablu Pandit, while Sonal Chauhan brings another interesting angle.
The dialogues are sharp and packed with whistle-worthy moments. Most importantly, the climax delivers an unexpected twist and adds a strong emotional layer to the gangster drama.
Overall, Mirzapur The Movie is packed with violence, emotions, powerful performances, memorable characters and mass entertainment. Despite its long runtime, the film manages to create the much-awaited bhaukaal and is worth watching in theatres.
