Jharkhand 108 Ambulance Service: Employees Give Government September 8 Deadline, Warn of Statewide Protest

The Jharkhand Pradesh Ambulance Employees’ Union has raised several demands regarding the operation of the 108 ambulance service across the state. The union has urged the government to cancel the ongoing tender process, operate the service at the district level under the supervision of Civil Surgeons and reinstate employees who were removed by the private agency.

The union has given the government a deadline of September 8 to take action. It has warned that if no concrete decision is taken within the given timeframe, 108 ambulance employees across Jharkhand will launch a statewide democratic movement.

According to union state president Neeraj Tiwari, the National Health Mission (NHM) has issued directions regarding the operation of ambulance services at the district level through Civil Surgeons. However, the union claims that these instructions have not been fully implemented.

The employees’ union believes that operating the 108 ambulance service through the government at the district level would improve monitoring of ambulances. It also says that such a system could provide better protection for employees’ interests and potentially reduce government expenditure.

Neeraj Tiwari has alleged that several complaints have emerged during the operation of the ambulance service through private agencies. These complaints reportedly relate to ambulance maintenance, fuel, employee salaries and other operational arrangements.

The union has expressed concern that problems related to maintenance and management could directly affect emergency medical services provided to patients. It believes that stronger government supervision could help improve the functioning of the ambulance network.

Another major demand is the reinstatement of employees who were removed by the private company. The union argues that experienced ambulance workers should be given an opportunity to return to service rather than being replaced.

The union has asked the government to end the tender process, bring the 108 ambulance service under district-level government supervision and reinstate the dismissed employees by September 8.

If these demands are not addressed, the union has warned that ambulance employees across Jharkhand will begin a democratic statewide protest.
