Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao is currently making headlines for his upcoming film ‘Prahaar’, a highly anticipated biographical drama based on the life of renowned government prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. The film has already generated curiosity with its recently released teaser. However, fans will now have to wait longer as the makers have postponed its theatrical release.
‘Prahaar’ was earlier scheduled to arrive in cinemas on August 7, 2026. The new release date has now been announced as October 16, 2026. The decision comes just a week before the major August 14 releases of Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Awarapan 2’ and Sunny Deol’s ‘Bantwara 1947’.
There has been considerable industry discussion about the release strategy, with speculation that the makers wanted to avoid a crowded box-office window. Both ‘Awarapan 2’ and ‘Bantwara 1947’ have generated significant audience interest, making the August period highly competitive.
Maddock Films announced the new release date through a social media post with the caption, “Ab hoga justice ka Prahaar.”
Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Maddock Films, ‘Prahaar’ is directed by Avinash Arun Dhaware. The film explores the life and lesser-known aspects of Ujjwal Nikam, one of India’s prominent government prosecutors.
Nikam was involved in the prosecution of Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist captured after the 2008 Mumbai attacks. His work in the high-profile case made him a widely recognised figure in India’s legal landscape.
Rajkummar Rao will portray Ujjwal Nikam on screen, a role that has already created considerable interest among moviegoers. Known for his versatile performances, Rao’s transformation into the veteran prosecutor is one of the film’s major attractions.
The cast also includes Wamiqa Gabbi, Sikandar Kher and Jaideep Ahlawat in important roles.
With the release now scheduled for October 16, ‘Prahaar’ will get a fresh theatrical window away from the August box-office clash.
