Royal Enfield Himalayan 440: New 6-Speed Gearbox, Off-Road Power and Modern Features Coming Soon

Royal Enfield is reportedly preparing to bring the Himalayan 440 back in a new avatar, targeting riders who enjoy long journeys, mountain roads, rough trails and off-road adventures. The upcoming motorcycle could offer a combination of rugged styling, capable hardware and improved touring performance, making it an interesting option for buyers looking for a tough motorcycle at a relatively accessible price.
The Himalayan 440 is expected to use a 443cc air- and oil-cooled single-cylinder engine, similar to the unit used in the Scram 440. The engine is expected to produce around 25.4 bhp of power and 34 Nm of torque. One of the biggest expected changes is the transmission. Instead of the earlier 5-speed gearbox, the motorcycle could get a new 6-speed gearbox. This could help make highway riding smoother and keep the engine more relaxed at higher speeds.
In terms of design, the motorcycle is expected to retain the classic Himalayan-inspired appearance. It could feature a round headlamp, tall windscreen and a 15-litre fuel tank. For off-road capability, the bike is expected to get a 21-inch front spoke wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel. Around 200mm of suspension travel could further improve its ability to handle rough and uneven terrain.
The motorcycle is also expected to receive modern features. These could include a semi-digital or TFT instrument cluster with Tripper navigation, Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation support. A USB charging port could also be included for riders undertaking long journeys.
For safety, the Himalayan 440 is expected to feature disc brakes on both wheels along with dual-channel ABS. A switchable rear ABS system could also be offered to provide better control during off-road riding.
The new Himalayan 440 is expected to launch in India by September 2026. Its estimated ex-showroom price could range between Rs 2.20 lakh and Rs 2.50 lakh, positioning it between the Scram 440 and Himalayan 450.
