Indian Army Unveils New Uniform Code, Ends Several Colonial-Era Traditions

The Indian Army has introduced a revised uniform code through its new “Army Uniforms-2026” manual, replacing several colonial-era traditions. The changes permit bandi jackets for formal wear, remove ceremonial pouch belts, and make swords optional during parades. A new winter dress, designated 3B, has also been introduced for all ranks, modernising military attire.
