Bihar Eyes ₹12,000 Crore Boost Through Coal Gasification Projects

Patna: Bihar is set to emerge as a major industrial and energy hub with the Centre estimating investment potential of ₹8,000–12,000 crore in coal gasification projects. The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey and Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.

Officials estimate the projects could generate around 2,500 direct and indirect jobs while promoting domestic production of methanol, ammonia, hydrogen, fertilizers and other industrial chemicals. Coal gasification converts coal into synthetic gas, reducing dependence on imported chemical products and supporting India's energy security.

The initiative is part of the National Coal Gasification Mission, which aims to gasify 100 million tonnes of coal annually by 2030. While experts note the projects require significant investment and long development timelines, they believe successful implementation could transform Bihar into a key industrial destination and boost long-term economic growth.
