Big Green Push: Bihar Set To Roll Out 400 Electric Buses, Patna Gets 150 First

Brief By Newsbrief / 10:04 AM on 27 Apr 2026

In a major step towards sustainable mobility, the Bihar government is set to introduce 400 electric buses under the PM e-Bus Seva scheme across all 38 districts. The first phase will prioritize Patna, which will receive 150 buses, while cities like Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Gaya, and Darbhanga will get 50 buses each.

To support the new fleet, around 30 modern charging stations will be developed, with additional infrastructure planned in the second phase covering remaining districts. Smaller district headquarters will also receive electric buses along with dedicated charging points.

Officials say the initiative will significantly reduce air pollution by cutting harmful emissions and lowering PM2.5 and PM10 levels. Electric buses will also reduce noise pollution and operating costs, potentially making public transport more affordable. The move is expected to improve public health while modernizing Bihar’s transport system for a cleaner future.
